Julian Hingley began his teaching career in 1981 in England at a school established in 1457. Appointed headmaster for the first time at the young age of 27, he went on to direct and lead seven distinct schools across the UK and Eastern Europe.

Pioneering International Education in Romania

After heading two schools in London and completing university studies, Julian moved to Romania in 2000. In October of that year, he introduced the very first Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) examination programme into a Bucharest school.

Over the past 25 years in Romania, Julian has served as Director of Transylvania College, led the establishment of the Royal School project in Cluj, consulted for Seven Hills School in Iași, and advised Knowledge Tree Cambridge School in Brașov. In 2017, he established Cluj Study Centre (CSC) to pioneer blended learning, offering students an affordable, flexible alternative to traditional private international schools.

Teaching Philosophy & Expertise

Julian specializes in what American academia terms Liberal Studies or the Humanities. He delivers comprehensive Cambridge IGCSE, A-Level, and undergraduate tuition across:

• History & Critical Pedagogy (Causality, motives, and historical analysis)
• English Language & Literature (Shakespeare, analysis, and composition)
• Law & Politics (Constitutional structures, US/UK federalism, and theory)
• Sociology, Classics & Biblical Studies (Julian is the sole provider of A-Level Classics and Biblical Studies in Romania)

His teaching methodology draws on foundational thinkers such as Piaget, Froebel, Robert Owen, and Michael Apple—combining intellectual rigor with empathy to foster genuine critical reasoning.
